What needs to be resolved in the flat

  • Ventilation: A Finnish sauna requires air intake and exhaust; otherwise, the wall behind it will become damp. We solve this with a grille in the bathroom connected to extraction or via direct exhaust.
  • Electrical: Finnish heaters from 4.5 to 6 kW require a three-phase supply or a reinforced circuit; an infrared sauna can operate from a standard socket. The supply connection and inspection are included in the scope of work.
  • Flooring: tiles or another washable surface, ideally sloped towards the shower.
  • Consent: in an apartment building, sauna construction usually does not require permission, but consult the property manager or the building's owners' association regarding electrical work and ventilation. We will prepare the necessary documents.

How small can a sauna be?

Infrared sauna for one person from 1 x 1 m. Finnish sauna for two seated from 1,5 x 1,5 m, with lying space from 2 x 1,6 m. Ceiling height at least 2 m. We build custom shapes under stairs or into alcoves because a bespoke sauna does not have to be rectangular.

Sauna or steam shower?

A steam cabin reaches 45 degrees with 100% humidity, requires a steam generator and durable tiling. A sauna is drier, simpler to operate and the wood lasts for years. For those who enjoy steam, an infrared sauna and a good shower are often sufficient in a small bathroom.

Will a flat sauna destroy the plaster with moisture?

No, provided it has a vapour barrier, insulation and ventilation. Humidity in the sauna is low; problems arise only with cold uninsulated walls where condensation forms. We always build with an aluminium vapour barrier and a gap for ventilation.

How much does an apartment sauna weigh?

A small Finnish sauna weighs several hundred kilograms distributed over its area, which a standard ceiling can support. In the attic above, we verify the floor structure before preparing the design.

How long does installation in an apartment take?

Typically 2 to 4 days on site: framework, tiling, benches, electrical work, inspection. Custom manufacturing of components precedes this.
