Custom-built Finnish sauna, not a catalogue cabin.

Classic: 80 to 100 degrees, steam from the stones and cooling down. We build it in the bathroom, cellar, extension or garden, exactly to your dimensions.

Interior of a Finnish sauna with light aspen benches

Why a bespoke sauna

Finished cabins have fixed dimensions and benches that fit neither the space nor your height. A custom-built sauna utilises every centimetre of the room; the benches have the correct depth for lying down, and the stove matches the volume of the cabin. This determines whether you enjoy saunas at 90 degrees or suffer.

What we build Finnish saunas from

  • Walls and ceiling: Nordic spruce for a light interior, thermowood or dark aspen for a calm, darker space.
  • Benches: willow, abachi or alder. Resin-free, does not burn, does not stain.
  • Insulation and vapour barrier: aluminium foil and mineral wool to prevent heat loss into the wall.
  • Stoves: electric with external control or wood-burning with a chimney, sized to the volume.
  • Ventilation: supply under the stove and exhaust under the bench. Without it, the sauna suffocates and the wood moulds.
  • Doors and glass: fully glazed or wooden with glazing, lighting under the benches.

Where a Finnish sauna will fit

A steam room for two starts at around 1.6 x 1.6 m, for four at around 2 x 2 m. You need a height of at least 2.1 m, a durable floor and ideally a shower nearby. Suitable for bathrooms, cellars, under stairs and extensions. Find the outdoor version on the page outdoor sauna.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature should be maintained in a Finnish sauna?

Typically 80 to 100 degrees at the ceiling with humidity around 10 to 20 percent. Steam from pouring water on the stones will briefly raise the temperature. We select stoves that maintain the sauna temperature even with doors open between entries.

How long does heating take?

Electric heaters of the correct power will heat a home sauna in 45 to 60 minutes. Wood-burning stoves work similarly but require an operator. Underpowered heaters take two hours to heat up, after which people stop using the sauna.

Does a home sauna require ventilation?

Yes, always. Fresh air supply and exhaust to the room or outside. At our company this is part of the design, including moisture management in the rest of the room.
